The Duophone

Profile

UK Shellac label. For records simply mentioning "The Duophone" and which were released in 1925-1926, please use this label. Please see [l=Duophone Record] and [l=Duophone Unbreakable Record] for related labels. Records on this label are either twelve-inch records (numbered A-1000 upward) or 10-inch (B-5000 upwards). A rather eccentric record label with several different label names and a bewildering number of catalogue series produced by The Duophone Syndicate (63 Queen Victoria St, London) whose main product was a gramophone with dual soundboxes that supposedly enhanced sound quality. The earliest record releases in October 1925 were on The Duophone label, and made of the usual shellac by Vocalion. Later (1926-1929) releases were on the [l=Duophone Record] (both shellac and "unbreakable" pressings) and on the [l=Duophone Unbreakable Record] labels.
