Norgran Records

Profile

American independent jazz label in Los Angeles, California, launched by producer/impresario [a=Norman Granz] in 1954, to ease distribution bottlenecks at his [l=Clef Records] label. Absorbed into Granz' [l=Verve Records] in 1956. Norgran's initial artist roster comprised Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, Johnny Hodges, Buddy DeFranco, Ben Webster, Lester Young, Charlie Ventura, Buddy Rich, Louie Bellson, Bill Harris and Chico O'Farrill. Norgran's initial release schedule was LPs on the first of each month, and EPs and singles on the 15th of each month. Some releases may display "muenster-dummel Hi-Fi recording" emblem on the cover. This is a marketing gimmick only, not a credit or series, and may be added to the release notes: "muenster-dummel Hi-Fi recording" emblem on front cover. (Example: [r=7342034])
