Lion Records (4)

Profile

Originally created by [l=MGM Records] in the mid-1950s as a budget label (it began releasing 10" LPs in 1953, switching over to the standard 12" in 1958). Its albums mainly consisted of compilations of new-to-LP singles and previously unreleased material as well as classical recordings. This version of the label was shut down in 1960. The label was reactivated in 1971 when [a=Jimmy Webb] closed down his MGM-distributed [l=Lionel Records (2)] label, and many of its acts were transferred to the revived Lion label. It was permanently retired in 1973.
