County Records

Profile

County Records is a Record Label often confused with County Sales, a retail business selling CDs, books, T-shirts,... They have one thing in common: until 2018, they had the same owner. The County Records label was started in 1963 [or 1964 ?] by Dave Freeman in his native New York. In 1965 he started a mail-order outlet [County Sales] and in 1973 he moved both businesses to Floyd, Virginia. County Records "died" in January 2018 On LPs, County Records first specialized in 1920-30's reissues of "Old-Time Music" recordings [200 to 500] in 1965 then added their 700 series [most recorded by [a2478747] ] Late 1960's they added some classic bluegrass, like Kenny Baker, Lilly Brothers & Don Stover, .. Their last release brought us back to 1965 with "Legends Of Old-Time Music - Fifty Years Of County Records ‎(4xCD + Box)" a fitting title for that label.
