New Zealand Music Awards

Profile

The New Zealand Music Awards (from 2020 called the Aotearoa Music Awards (the AMA's even though this conflicts with the American Music Awards and the Australian Music Awards)) have been presented since 1965. The awards are presented by Recorded Music NZ (previously RIANZ & NZFPI) for recorded music excellence by New Zealand artists. Currently there are about 30 categories. Known at first as The Loxene Golden Disc, then the RATA Award, RIANZ Music Awards, The New Zealand Music Awards, the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards (VMA's)(from 2004 to 2019). The award itself is know as the 'Tui'. A combined promo CD/DVD of award nominees is given to attendees of the award show. Note: Prior to 1983 albums were not branded actually branded as 'NZ or New Zealand Music Awards'
