Scepter Records

Profile

US label; also appears as "Scepter" only. Started by [a=Florence Greenberg] in 1959 with $ 4.000 from the sale of [l747422], with [a=The Shirelles], to [l=Decca]. When [a=The Shirelles] didn't produce any hits for [l=Decca], they were given back to Greenberg, who promptly signed them. For all unofficial / bootleg copies of this label please use [l322667] In 1976 [a=Florence Greenberg] decided to retire from the business and sold her record labels to [l=Springboard International Records, Inc.]. When Springboard went bankrupt, [l=Gusto Records (2)] acquired the catalog. [a=Florence Greenberg] died November 2, 1995, of heart failure. Scepter was exclusively manufactured and distributed in Canada by [l=Quality Records Limited] (often on their [l=Reo], [l=Barry] and [l=Quality] labels) until the end of 1967. At the start of 1968 manufacturing and distributing of Scepter switched to [l=The Compo Company Ltd.]. In 1970 Compo was amalgamated into [l=MCA Records (Canada)] who handled Scepter until 1973. In 1973 Scepter was handled by [l=Polydor Ltd. (2)] until 1976. Label Code: LC 0836 / LC 00836
