John Hayward (2)

John Hayward (15 July 1948 - 6 June 1997) was best known as the bass player of the Ithaca NY-based [a=The Horseflies], a band he helped found and originally called The Tompkins County Horseflies. A New Hampshire native, John moved to Ithaca in the 1970s and played with [a=The Correctone Stringband] which, along with the contemporaneous [a=Highwoods Stringband], established Ithaca as a hotbed of southern-style old-time music. His younger son [a=Joe Hayward] is likewise active in the old-time and country music scene as a banjo, guitar, bass, and pedal steel player.
