Maya Von Doll
Founder member of Electroclash group Sohodolls. Originally an all girl trio releasing from 2004 on Alan McGee linked labels Poptones & Loser Friendly Records, by 2006 Sohodolls had evolved to become an electro-rock quintet with Maya as the only remaining original member and notably Finnish glam-rocker Toni Sailor Doll (All About Eve) on lead guitar. Famously Sohodolls played the Moscow Playboy annual awards in 2006. With a change of management, debut LP "Ribbed Music For The Numb Generation" was released in 2007 on the A&G Productions Ltd label with singles released on Filthy Pretty. The album included a reworked version of early single Stripper which brought global commercial success, including use in major advertising campaigns (eg Budweiser's global new product launch during half-time at the Superbowl, other campaigns included Rimmel) and tour dates around the world. A second Sohodolls album was never released and increasingly Maya wrote for other artists, notably early solo hits for Nicole Roberts (ex Girls Aloud) and later for a wider pool of artists. From 2013 Maya launched her New Pharoahs project, releasing music digitally from 2015, including a first digital album that was eventually self-released on CD in 2018. Sohodolls continue to occasionally release digital tracks, most notably in 2014 and in 2021 with the writing credit Maya Hawie.
