Joanne Jackson

A native of Newton, Iowa, Joanne Jackson had a long and successful career as a singer and songwriter, and is a member of both the Iowa Jazz Hall of Fame and the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame. She performed in the North Americas, Europe, including stints in musical; theatre ("Porgy and Bess"). Despite her continued success,, she recorded only one album under her own name, for Australia's ABC. The album, "A Woman Of Substance", was recorded in Sydney in 1989 with some of Australia's best jazz/session musicians. (NB: She was also known as Joanne Bratton.) Birth: Newton Iowa, September 10, 1937. Death: Los Angeles CA, November 18th, 2021
