Stella Starr
Stella was born in Sophiatown, 5 miles out of Johannesburg, South Africa during the Apartheid era. Stella was able to escape from South Africa and moved to London where she worked as a secretary for a travel agency in Bond Street. She heard about a talent contest at a pub in the east end of London. She duily won the competition, which led to her working at the Blue Angel night club in the west end of London Her career took off playing night clubs and hotels through out Britain and working internationally, The Far East, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Australia, Philippines, Egypt, Nigeria, Tanzania, Rhodesia, St Petersburg, Bulgaria, The Caribbean. To her surprise she returned to South Africa to co-star with soul singer Percy Sledge. It was a triumphant return home, with privileges neverwithin reach as a poor slum kid in Johannesburg. Getting through to the grand finals of “New Faces” on television introduced Stella Starr's spectacular singing style to millions of new fans.
