Silesia-born Austrian, later Czech composer of modern classical music of Jewish origin (1 January 1898, in Teschen, Silesia, Austro-Hungarian Empire, then divided between Cieszyn in Poland and Český Těšín in the Czechoslovakia – 18 October 1944, in KZ Auschwitz-Birkenau).
