Михаил Михайлович Ипполитов-Иванов / Mikhail Mikhailovich Ippolitov-Ivanov Russian composer, conductor and teacher. People's Artist of the Republic (1922). Born: November 19 (7 O.S.), 1859, Gatchina, Saint Petersburg Governorate, Russian Empire Died: January 28, 1935, Moscow, USSR His works include operas, orchestral, and chamber music, including a large number of songs. His style is similar to that of his teacher [a=Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov], with the exception of his orchestral suite "Caucasian Sketches" (Kavkazskiye Eskizi, written in 1894). He was named as a "People's Artist of the USSR" in 1922 and also awarded the "Order of the Red Banner of Labour".
