Mats Almgren

Swedish classical bass vocalist, employed as a soloist at the Gothenburg Opera. Here he has done roles as Fafner in Rhenguldet, Pimen in Boris Godunov, Simone in Gianni Schicchi, Kung Marke in Tristan and Isolde, Claggart in Billy Budd, Gurnemanz in Parsifal, Boris Ismajlov in Lady Macbeth from Mzensk, Storinvistorn in Don Carlos, Bartolo in Figaro's wedding, Timur in Turandot, Javert in Les misérable, Djurtämjaren / Atleten in Alban Bergs Lulu, Hunding in Valkyrian, Don Basilio in Barberaren in Sevilla, Arkel in Pelléas and Mélisande and Padre Guardiano in The Power of Fate. He has also done Sparafucile in Rigoletto at the Norwegian Opera and Sarastro in Trollflöjten at Drottningholmsteatern, roles he has also done at the Gothenburg Opera. Mats has also sung Bartolo in Figaro's wedding at the Royal Theater and sung roles as Hagen in Götterdämmerung at the Scottish Opera with guest appearances at the Edinburgh Festival, Teatro Massimo Palermo, Opera North and at the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto, where he also performed Rocco in Fidelio and Daland in The Flying Dutchman. At Opera North, Mats Almgren has also sung Fafner in Rhenguldet and Siegfried and Daland in The Flying Dutchman. He has also sung the role of Bishop Don Toribio in the premiere of Peter Eötvö's opera Love and Other Demons at Glyndebourne, where he also sang A Night Watch in The Master Singers in Nuremberg.
