Glen Carter

Glennis Carter-Varney is an Australian composer, pianist and educator. Glen was born 12 May 1938 in country Victoria. Carter–Varney commenced musical training at the age of three and as a student won many eisteddfods and competitions. At the age of twelve she gained her Associate Diploma and was offered a scholarship to study piano with Waldemar Seidel at the Melbourne University Conservatorium. She studied and played at Melbourne University Conservatorium between 1950 and 1973. In 1961 Glen married [a5414907], Town Clerk of Albury NSW who was also a talented pianist and organist and a Fellow of the Trinity College London. In 1973 she studied at the Royal Academy of Music London. From 1977 - 1978 she lectured in piano and keyboard musicianship at the Melba Memorial Conservatorium Melbourne. From 1977 - 1980 she was Music Director of The Scots School Albury NSW whilst also working as a music examiner. She subsequently worked as a Adjudicator and Workshop Presenter. In later life Jack Carter died and Glen married well-known jazz musician and record producer [a1401201], one of the original members of the Graeme Bell Jazz Band, which was the first Australian jazz band to achieve international renown. The couple released a number of "Cocktail Style” duo albums. Together they also formed a Keyboard Academy in Melbourne which was won a National award in 1981-82. She has produced musicals, trained choirs and madrigal groups, performed as solo pianist and recording artist.
