Rocío Faks
Composer and performer born in Buenos Aires (Argentina), Rocío began her studies as a vocalist in the Conservatory of Buenos Aires with Liliana Parafioriti (star of the musical Les Miserables) and Gachi Leivovich. During her training in Argentina she attended music seminars with Luciana Souza, Sheila Jordan, Thierney Sutton, Sara Gazarek, Jorge Rossy, David Binney and Perico Sambeat. In addition she completed her musical training with Maureen Scott, Viv Manning, Carme Canela and Ana Finger. She undertook musical language courses in the Conservatorio Superior Liceo for five years. Rocío completed her vocal training in Barcelona with Luziana Souza, Maureen Scott, Viv Manning, Carme Canela and Anne Finger. She also studied harmony in the Escola Passatge with Javier Feierstein, piano at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) with Marco Mezquida and guitar with Cesc Camprubí in the Juan Pedro Carrero School. In 2003 Rocío moved to Barcelona, where she performed with several jazz bands and collaborated with artists such as Gorka Benítez, David Mengual, Albert Bover, Albert Sanz, Marc Miralta, Masa Kamaguchi, Seamus Blake and Lionel Loueke, among others. During this period, Rocio participated in many festivals held in Barcelona and travelled to New York to perform in clubs such as Birdland, Smalls, Joe’s Pub, Blue Note to name a few. At present, she combines her work as voice and singing coach with collaborations with various jazz bands and leading her own quintet with Marco Mezquida (piano), Paco Perera (bass), Salvador Toscano (percussion) and Gabriel Amargant (Saxophone and clarinet). With this group, Rocio has performed at the 265 Jazz Festival, Noches de Bilbao at the Guggenheim Museum, Festival Masimas, Vijazz, Ibiza Jazz Festival, Festival de Jazz de Palma de Mallorca, etc. Internationally, she has performed at the Düsseldorf Jazz Festival (Germany), North Sea Jazz Festival (Netherlands), Copenhaguen Jazz Festival (Denmark) and Romanshorn Jazz Festival (Switzerland).
