Iacob Maciuca

Vilolonist. Born in Tulcea, in Romania, Iacob Maciua became a master of the gypsy style after graduating from the National University of Music of Bucharest. He arrived in France in 1992, and originally created the contemporary tango music group Cuarterto Jerez. He was also part of the Jean Marc Padovani Quartet. In 1996, alongside Gerardo Jerez Le Cam, he formed the band Translave, devoted to music with mixed influences from central Europe and Latin America. The band has performed over 350 concerts and recorded five albums so far. In the early 2000’s, he participated in the creations of Camilla Saraceni’s company with Gerardo Jerez Le Cam, such as Pas à deux, Charbons Ardents and Tangos, Verduras y Yerbas. Since 2008, he has directed a traditional gypsy quartet, The Iacob Maciuca Quartet. However, he also performs classical and baroque music, in particular as part of Nantes’ crazy Day.
