Famous Romanian 1930's - early 1940's actress and singer with Hebrew origins ✰ 21st of March 1904, Lugansk (then Russian Empire, now Ukraine) ✞ February 2nd, 1992, Berlin, Germany Leny's childhood is shrouded in mystery. She left home at age 12, was taken by an strolling band and became singer Some sources say that Maria Ventura guided her to became actress In 1924 after graduating the private dramatic art conservatory of actor Al. Mihailescu, Lucia Sturdza-Bulandra hired her at „Regina Maria” Theatre She played on several theatres like „Fantasio” Theatre owned by actor Ion Iancovescu, „Teatru Nostru” led by Sică Alexandrescu and other theatre companies In 1942, a racist law forbids the Jewish actors to be present on a Romanian stage and, during this period, she plays at the Jewish Theater, „Baraşeum” In 1944 she founded alongside George Vraca „Victoria” Theatre where she played until 1948 when it was nationalized by the Communist authorities.
