Luciano Alves

Brazilian pianist, keyboardist, composer, arranger and producer born 1956 in Minas Gerais. Luciano has five solo CDs: Quartzo, Baobá, Mosaico, Brazil Today and Luciano Alves Interpreta Ernesto Nazareth. More than 60 songs are currently in iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, CD Baby, Last.fm, etc. Pepeu Gomes, Paulo Moura, Sergio Dias, Rui Motta, Marcos Suzano, Bruce Henry and Don Chacal are some musicians who took part on many tracks of these CDs. He has five published books: Dicionário de Acordes para Piano e Teclados, Escalas para Improvisação, Teoria Musical – Lições Essenciais, Exercícios para Piano e Teclados, Fazendo Música no Computador. Since 1970 he has worked as pianist and musical director for several plays. In 1976, he joined the Os Mutantes (Brazilian pop-group), traveling throughout Brazil and Italy and recording the Mutantes ao Vivo LP. He lived in Milan, where he produced his first arrangements and took part in recordings with a number of Italian performers. Back in Brazil, he joined the Pepeu Gomes band as keyboardist and arranger, appearing with him three times at the Montreux Festival (Switzerland) and touring in many countries, while also composing a number of instrumentals together for his CDs. He also recorded with Moraes Moreira, Caetano Veloso, Sergio Dias, L. Shankar, Clive Stevens and Do Um Romão, among others. In 1983 he was the musical director of Brazilian singer Elba Ramalho, touring in Brazil, Portugal and Israel. Since 1985 he has performed in solo shows or with his band both in Brazil and abroad at festivals and cultural institutions. In the classical music area, he has performed as a soloist with the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra and the Rio de Janeiro Opera House Orchestra in concerts conducted by maestro Isaac Karabtchevsky. In October 1991 he toured Denmark, playing in Copenhagen, Odense and Århus, spotlighting Afro-Brazilian rhythms and his CDs. During this trip he gave many courses about Brazilian music at a number of universities. In 1992 he set up his own desktop publishing firm, producing music books, scores and teaching methods, with over sixty publications already completed for a number of publishing houses. In 2003 he founded his own music school at Rio de Janeiro: CTMLA – Centro de Tecnologia Musical Luciano Alves. At the present time Luciano conducts and give lessons on classical piano and jazz improvisation at CTMLA while performs in many shows and recitals, playing his compositions and many pieces composed by Villa-Lobos, Ernesto Nazareth, Debussy, Beethoven and Chopin. In 2009 was released his new CD Luciano Alves Interpreta Ernesto Nazareth (Biscoito Fino) and since 2010 he is performing in duo with Brazilian singer Bettina Graziani promoting the CD Só o que a gente gosta (Fina Flor).
