Rolf Billberg

Swedish jazz baritone saxophonist, born 22 August 1930 in Lund, Sweden, died 17 August 1966 in Uddevalla, Sweden. At the age of 17, Billberg became a military musician with clarinet as his main instrument. He switched to tenor saxophone after four years, but it was as an alto saxophonist that he later made his main contribution. During the 1950s, like Arne Domnérus and Willy Lundin, he was an alto saxophonist of high international class, influenced primarily by Lee Konitz. He often performed with trumpeter Jan Allan.
