Paul Shurey
British musician (drummer and keyboard player), born 24 December 1958, died 24 April 2013. In 1989 went into acid house and dance music and became a major rave promoter. Also spent time playing keyboards for [a=Serge Gainsbourg]. After that he became a regional promotions man for [l=London Records] focusing on the south-west. This brought him into contact with the free party scene, leading to him putting on his own free parties under various names. In 1991 he went legal and began promoting the Universe & Tribal Gathering events. After these companies went bankrupt in 1993 he began promoting the techno night Final Frontier at Club UK in London with new partner Ian Jenkinson. 1995 saw them re-start Tribal Gathering backed by the Mean Fiddler organisation. Shurey & Jenkinson fell out with Mean Fiddler, resulting in Tribal gathering 1998 being cancelled and a lengthy legal battle. He left the music business and worked for the TV production company Tiger Aspect, as well as setting up a dating site for married people who wanted to have affairs. He died in 2013 at the age of 54, after a fall whilst on vacation in India.
