Hogeye Navvy

Indianapolis based Irish, Scottish, and North American traditional music band, formed in 1962 by Terry Bellner (born in Maumee, Ohio). The band is well known for its upbeat Irish, Scottish, American and English shanties. The bands early days featured Bellner's family members, however, they endured several changes and disbanded in 1967 when Bellner was deployed to serve in the Vietnam War where he became a victim of friendly fire leaving him severely injured and later disabled. Since 1986 the band has featured the Bellners, their son Johnandrew, a tenor banjoist; Eric Peterson, who plays a bouzouki (resembles a mandolin); and percussionist Gary Farren. Johnandrew’s wife, Debra Shebish, a classically trained violinist who studied at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, often plays with the group, and the Bellners’ other son, Stuart, occasionally joins in as a bassist. Members: Terry Bellner - Vocals, Concertina Garry Farren - Vocals, Bodhran Mac Bellner - Vocals, Guitar With: Liz Bohall - Fiddle, Vocals [a=Johnandrew Bellner] - Vocals, Tenor Banjo, Mandolin, Guitar [a=Deb Shebish] - Fiddle, Vocals
