Ransom Knowling

b. June 24, 1912 in New Orleans, Louisiana d. Oct 22, 1967 in Chicago, Illinois Best known as a bass player, Knowling also played tuba and violin. He performed with New Orleans big bands in the 1920s and 1930s under Sidney Desvigne, Joe Robichaux and others, then moved to Chicago where he played on many blues and R&B records. He achieved the greatest commercial success with his work as a bassist for Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup and Little Brother Montgomery.
