Derrick Morgan

Jamaican ska, rocksteady & reggae singer, deejay, writter, composer and producer born 27 March 1940 in Stratton, Clarendon, Jamaica. He moved to Allman Town in Kingston with his mother when he was 3 years old because of his health problems, as he suffered from a retinal deficiency that progressively led to total blindness. After winning the "Vere Johns Oportunity Hour" singing competition, he joined the [a1358991] troupe and made his first recording in 1960. He started with Prince Buster then in 1968 he joined his brother-in-law Bunny Lee. He set up his own labels [l86422], [l1733125] and "Morgan". At the end of the 1970's he moved to Canada for 3 years and then to the USA to finally settle in England. He is now back in Jamaica where he can follow the career of his daughter Ventrice Morgan aka [a569396]. He is married to Nellie Lee Morgan, the sister of [a117101].
