Bent Axen

Major Danish jazz pianist, composer and leader in the 60's and 70's (b. August 12, 1925, Copenhagen - d. May 20, 2010, Mindebog) . Began career in the 50's, preferred local accompanist of [a=Stan Getz]. Around 1960 his band Jazzkvintet-60 ([a=Jazz Quintet 60]) offered debut to a very young [a=Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen]. Also very active as leader of ensembles for theater productions, TV and cabarets. Member of and composer for [a=The Danish Radio Jazz Group] 1961 to 1967. Awarded Danish Jazz Musician of the year 1960. Piano teacher in his later years.
