Orkester Norden

Nordic-Baltic symphony orchestra summer program. The orchestra was founded in 1993. With the conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen as artistic leader, Orkester Norden was founded in Stockholm, where it had its seat and was administered by Rikskonterter, before moving to Kristiansand in southern Norway, where it is now part of the operation at the new large cultural center Kilden with Rolf Gupta as artistic leader. The idea of the orchestra is partly to strengthen Nordic cultural cooperation and cooperation with the newly independent autonomous Baltic States in the early 1990s, and partly to give young prospective musicians the necessary training in orchestral playing. In January each year auditions for music students are held at music colleges in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The selected young musicians gather for a few weeks during the summer and play together as a symphony orchestra and hold concerts. Over the years, the orchestra has given concerts around the Nordic and Baltic countries and also toured in Europe and China and has been led by several prominent conductors. You now also organize other activities, courses and masterclasses in chamber music games, solo courses etc.
