Py Bäckman

Swedish songwriter, piano player, harmonica player and singer in pop, rock and hymn as well as musicals and film, Born 5 July, 1948, Stockholm Sweden. TV debut in the program Stora famnen 1957. After that TV appearance, she toured around and sang classical songs. Then Elvis came and nothing was the same. In 1969-70, py started a band with Basse Wickman who played country rock. In 1973, Bäckman started touring with the rock band NQB. During the latter part of the 1970s and 80s, she collaborated with her then partner Dan Hylander. The couple shared the backing band Raj Montana Band with whom she had a breakthrough through the album The Last Performance. After the split in 1984, she continued as a solo artist. In addition to his solo career, Bäckman has also been active as a songwriter and as such has collaborated with several artists. She wrote "Stad i ljus with which Tommy Körberg won the Swedish Melodifestivalen in 1988, and which since 2006 is also a hymn. In 1993, the collaboration with Mats Wester began, where the group Nordman was created and Bäckman was involved from the beginning as a copywriter until 1998 when the group split. In 2005, however, she refused continued cooperation and was replaced by Dan Attlerud. In 2010 she is back in collaboration with Nordman on their new album "Korsväg". In 1997, the folk rock group Garmarna performed at the Melodifestivalen with a song signed by Nordman's songwriting duo, Mats Wester (music) and Py Bäckman (lyrics). Py has written the lyrics to "Gabriellas sång" with music by Stefan Nilsson, in Kay Pollak's film Så som i himmelen (2004), and to Koppången set to music by Per-Erik Moraeus. She has also translated, to Swedish, musicals such as Chicago, Evita, and Garbo The Musical. In 2004, Bäckman wrote new hymns, a supplement to the Swedish Book of Psalms on behalf of the Church of Sweden. She participated in the Melodifestivalen 2010 with her own song, "Magisk stjärna". Py wrote the song "My place on earth" together with Fredik Kempe and Anders Hansson. The song was also number one on Svensktoppen. Another song that ended up in first place was the song "Do you love me, I love you" written together with Sven-Erik Magnusson. Mention can also be made of her participation in the ANC gala at Scandinavium 1985 and a tour of Sweden and Finland with jazz legend Jukka Tolonen. She has started a fruitful collaboration with Stefan Nilsson and they write both to e.g. Sissel Kyrkjebö and to Stefan's various film projects. In 2014, Py began a collaboration with Janne Bark who, among other things, resulted in an album called. "Vi är bara människor".
