Pendulum (15)

South African band formed in 1972 by Richard Hyam (guitar), Glenda Hyam (keyboards, vocals) and Paul Coetzee (drums). Rusty Northcote (bass) joined a while later. They toured the country, playing clubs at every major centre, and became a top attraction. The band went through several drummers, with Paul Coetzee being replaced by Steve Powderley, then Graham Buckle, Derek Harrington, Neil Fox and finally by Mike Gray. By 1977 Vic Hastings (guitar, vocals) had joined the band, and Glenda Hyam had left to join Clout. By 1979 the final line-up was: • Richard Hyam (guitar, vocals); • Rusty Northcote (bass, vocals); • Bryan Watts (guitar, vocals); • Alan Saunders (keyboards, vocals); • Mike Gray (drums). They received a SARI award in 1975 for Best Band, and a special award for their song “All I Wanna Do”. They disbanded in 1980. The 7" single release of this song reached number 6 on the South African Top 20 in 1976, charting for 11 weeks. This version is off the album “Pendulum”, also released in 1976 (vocals by Vic Hastings).
