John A. Speight

John A. Speight was born in England in 1945. John A. Speight, an English-born Icelandic composer and singer. Speight studied singing and composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London from 1964-1972. During this time he also studied composition privately with Richard Rodney Bennett. In 1972 he moved to Iceland with his wife, the Icelandic pianist Sveinbjörg Vilhjálmsdóttir and he became an Icelandic citizen in 1980. His list of compositions includes all genres, from works for solo instruments to large-scale orchestral pieces. His Christmas Oratorio won the Icelandic Music Award 2003 as the composition of the year.
