Jimmie Davis

American singer and songwriter and politician (Governor of the state of Louisiana, USA). Born 11 September 1899 near Beech Springs, Louisiana. Died 5 November 2000 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Married to singer [a1932476]. Inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame (1972), Gospel Music Hall of Fame (1994), Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame (1971) and the Shreveport Walk of Stars (2002). Known as [i]"The Singing Governor"[/i], he was a successful country & western and gospel singer as well as a politician, serving two terms as Louisiana governor (1944-1948 and 1960-1964).
