Lars H.U.G.

Danish vocalist, musician, composer and artist, b. 1953. Founded [a=Kliche (2)] in 1977, who released two albums and broke up whilst in the making of their third album. Solo artist from 1984, releasing [r=801186] with modest success. Changed his stage name in January 1987 from Lars Hug, his nickname since childhood, to Lars H.U.G. to avoid an impending lawsuit from a Danish entrepreneur out of the Hug family. Major national hit album with 1987's [r=801195]. Has released only rarely as a solo-artist but to much acclaim and popularity. A very transformative artist, Lars H.U.G. has changed his sound from the early Talking Heads inspired industrial new wave in the Kliche-days to the big band bossa nova and romantic pop on his latest releases. In recent year he has also transformed more and more into a painting artist and has performed only very rarely as a musician. Lyrically he has transformed as well, from the cold technocratic minimalism of his earlier days to a more romantic universe. A few lines from his song "Mon de kan reparere dig?" was quoted Frederik, Crown Prince of Denmark, in his speech to his bride Mary, Crown Princess of Denmark, at their 2004 royal wedding.
