Henry Fiol

Henry Fiol is a New York -based singer/songwriter/bandleader and artist who started his career in Latin music in mid-70's. His style could best be characterized as "tipico," because throughout his career he always stuck relatively close to the Cuban son, the root of the music now called salsa. He began as a conga player, but in the mid-seventies he co-founded and co-led Saoco, where he wrote most of the material and made his debut as a vocalist. Since 1980 he started to record and perform under his own name, both as a soloist and as leader of his own conjunto. Early 80's he scored several number-one hits in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, and Dominican Republic. In 1983 he formed the band "Corazón", recording several albums to his own record company, also named Corazón. During the LP era he painted all his record covers himself, developing a distinctive red-and-black visual style, both in clothing and in covers. Henry Fiol has travelled and performed on an international level, particularly in Latin America and Europe, where, over the years, he has achieved the status of being considered a “classic artist” and a perennial favorite.
