Miguel Rios (5)

Australian singer-songwriter and guitarist based in the Nillumbik area (Cottles Bridge then Hurstbridge) of Victoria (Melbourne / Naarm). Miguel Rios is known for his raw vocal performance, fingerstyle guitar and story telling songs. Rios infuses folk and blues sentiments into his music and wraps it around a classic songwriting style. Born in an alternative community in the Far North Queensland hinterland, Miguel had a free and lawless childhood. Picking up the guitar at 11 years old, Miguel would often rise at 4.30am to practice and penned his first song at 16. He set about learning the intricacies of rhythm and the mysteries of song writing with the albums of Delta Blues legends and 60s American and English folk singers as his teachers. His influences include the fingerstyle and rhythm guitar greats, John Fahey, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Skip James, Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and Leo Kottke, and the writing styles of Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and Johnny Cash.
