Tugga Terrier

Swedish new wave band started in Stockholm in 1983 by the Jämtland sisters Ulla Andersson (now Wrethagen), vocals and guitar and Lena Andersson, bass. Tugga Terrier wrote their own songs with Swedish lyrics. The first two years Nils Tunving, Anders Fille Strömquist and Anders Lunkan Lönnkvist played drums. In 1985, the group found its final form when Magdalena Fia Skarp came in on drums and Anna Westring on synthesizer and vocals. Until 1989, Tugga Terrier did about 40 gigs a year at places such as Tre Backar and Cityhallen and was often hired in various party contexts at Stockholm's art schools. In addition, a number of Norrland tours were carried out. The group excelled through energetic live performances with spectacular stage outfits. They also created the music for the dance performance Peach by Claire Parsons, performed a concert at Unga Klara's premiere party for the performance R and carried out a tour in Germany and Denmark. In Hillevi Ganetz's article Wicked princesses - a conversation with Tugga Terrier published in the book Kvinnors Musik, the group talks, among other things, about the need for female role models and the liberating and provocative role of stage clothes. In the late 1980s, Tugga Terrier joined the record company Massproduktion in Sundsvall, which released the group's third single and only LP/CD. In March 2012, the company released a double CD that collected the band's highlights during the years 1983-1991. In connection with this, the band played around ten gigs. When Anna Westring quit in 1990, she was replaced by Lasse Thomasson on synths and guitarist Richard Tersaeus was with the last year before the group disbanded in 1991. After the group's breakup, Ulla Wrethagen continued as a musician in Unga Klara and in Urban Turban and several of the members have continued to play in various cover bands, including Nurse Diesel. In May 2013, Massproduktion released the collection Elshock where Burnt Sienna, Scoville and Elsa Sjögren did covers of Tugga Terrier's songs - En njutning för en galning, Akta dig and Till Helena.
