Cherry Wainer

South African-born musician, and a soloist on the Hammond organ. Best-known as a member of [a=Lord Rockingham's XI]. She was married to [a1182061]. Wainer first came to the attention of UK television audiences as a regular in the 1950s TV magazine, 'Lunchbox', with Noele Gordon. She subsequently featured as a session musician on the programme 'Oh Boy!' (one of the first British series to regularly feature rock 'n' roll), with Lord Rockingham's XI, who were a 'scratch' band led by [a=Harry Robinson] and included [url=https://www.discogs.com/artist/739321-Benny-Green-2]Benny Green[/url] and [a=Red Price]. Their single, 'Hoots Mon', was number one on the UK chart in 1958. In 1962, she married drummer [a=Don Storer], with whom she had appeared regularly as a duo during the 1960s, and on a German television series called Beat! Beat! Beat! (1966-67).
