Ukrainian Shumka Dancers

Ukrainian Shumka Dancers is a Canadian Ukrainian dance company based in Edmonton, Alberta. Founded in 1959 by Chester Kuc, it is currently the only professional Ukrainian dance company in Canada. Throughout its 60-year history, Shumka has toured extensively around the world, performing in Canada, the United States, Ukraine, the former Soviet Union, China, Japan, Hong Kong, Korea, and Tunisia. The word “shumka” roughly translates to whirlwind. Shumka is a resident company of the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium.
