Stu MacLeod

Stuart Leslie MacLeod or 'Stu' to His Friends was born in 1977 and is the guitarist and Backing Vocalist of the Award Winning Australian band, Eskimo Joe. He lives in South Fremantle, Western Australia with His Wife and Two Children (Twins). When Stu was Seven Years Old He and His Family lived next door to Kavyen Temperley and they have been best friends for years. Both Stu and Kav Temperley attended John Curtin Senior High School together. Stu MacLeod then went on to study Engineering and Commerce at the University of Western Australia. In 1997 Stu MacLeod started jamming with Kav Temperley, who was already in an Australian band called 'Freud's Pillow'. Stu MacLeod co-wrote several of their Songs which were later Recorded and Released as an EP in 1997. The pair decided to form a new band and auditioned a few drummers before settling on Joel Quartermain, who was better known as a guitarist, and Performed with Kav in 'Freud's Pillow', after He mentioned as an 'afterthought' when they asked if He knew of a 'good Drummer' that 'He also played drums'. Stu MacLeod and Kav Temperley jointly decided that Joel Quartermain was more musical than any other drummer they had auditioned upto that date, and so He got the Job. They then entered the band, 'Eskimo Joe', into the Australian National Campus Band Competition. The first heat in August 1997 was Eskimo Joe's first ever Live performance, they went on to win the state final and then the national competition, with the reward being a chance to play at the 'Livid Music Festival' and earning a recording session in Sydney from which Two EPs were quickly Recorded. Successfully straddling mainstream commercial success, while managing to keep their Alternative Music roots secure, over their career, Eskimo Joe have racked up a list of impressive stats along with commercial recognition. Three of the band’s six albums debuted at #1 on the ARIA charts with the juggernaut 'Black Fingernails, Red Wine' shining for 62 weeks in the Top 50 Singles Charts and 'Foreign Land' bringing home 2 APRA Awards for Most Played Rock Song on Australian radio and Best Rock Song of 2010. Aside from his Eskimo Joe duties, Stu MacLeod has spent the last several years working as an acoustic designer outfitting recording studios including Joel Quatermain's 'Wasteland' Studio, as well as presenting on 96FM’s local Radio music show 'Access All Areas'. He is now the General Manager of the Perth Based Radio Station RTRFM 92.1 after taking up the post in 2015 and as of 2019 is also the General Manager of the Folkworld 'Fairbridge Music Festival' which is held yearly in Fairbridge Village, Western Australia, and has been running for 27 Years.
