Neon 2

A Finnish pop duo, founded in early 1990's by vocalist [a=Jussi Rainio] (b. 1965) and guitarist [a=Rami Alanko] (b. 1968). They signed a record deal with Sony Music in 1992 and later that year they finished second in the song contest "Syksyn sävel" with "Tässä talossa". The debut album "Polku" (1992) sold over 80.000 copies and was certified Platinum. "Polku" and "Kemiaa", both taken from the album also became hit singles. Their second album "Rivien välistä" was released in 1993 and sold over 50.000 copies and was certified Gold. A third album "Viides vuodenaika" (1995) and a compilation of ballads "Pala matkaa" (1996) followed before their success started to wane and Neon 2 became inactive. Both Rainio and Alanko continued with [a=Radionautti] which was a more Rock-oriented band. Jussi Rainio later formed [a=Rainio Bros.], that released two albums between 2001 and 2006, before he began touring and recording with Ressu Redford as [a=Ressu Redford & Jussi Rainio], while Rami Alanko left the music business completely. In 2014 Neon 2 was reunited as a five-man band instead of a duo, consisting of Jussi Rainio, Rami Alanko, [a=Toni Nuotio], [a=Jari Varjo] and [a=Petri Alanko]. The three new members had all previously played on the studio albums (Varjo on all three, Nuotio and P. Alanko on the third album) but didn't become official band members until now. The current line-up is actually the same line-up as was the short-lived Radionautti-project in late 90's. Members: Jussi Rainio - vocals (1992- ) Rami Alanko - guitar, vocals (1992- ) Toni Nuotio - bass, vocals (2014- ) Jari Varjo - drums (2014- ) Petri Alanko - keyboards (2014- )
