Olle Simonsson

Swedish fiddler, guitar player, zither player and songwriter, born in 1947, grew up in Uppsala and moved in 1973 to the municipality of Östersund, died November 2013. He started playing the violin with Olle Falk in Offerdal as role model. In 1985 he founded Offerdal's Spelmanslag, and Olle Simonsson toured with them both in Russia and America and released several CD albums with Offerdal music. Olle himself moved to the village of Ede in Offerdal in 1978, where he had his pottery workshop. Olle was very active in the Jämtland artisans' cooperative shop in Östersund with Jämtska the name for lynx – Gaupa. He sang and played in the church at concerts, services, baptisms, weddings and funerals in both their home church in Offerdal and in the neighboring parishes. He made a great contribution to Offerdals Hembygdsförening, where he was involved in starting music cafes, Christmas market and autumn festival, but above all the cultural Offerdal week every summer.
