Born: March 30, 1935 in Wytheville, Virginia. American bluegrass/gospel musician. Williams is mandolin player, tenor vocalist and composer. Seven-time winner of SPBGMA award for Gospel Group of The Year (Traditional). Inducted into the SPBGMA Preservation Hall of Greats, 1999. Inducted into IBMA Hall of Fame as a member of the Lonesome Pine Fiddlers, 2009. Inducted into Bill Monroe Bluegrass Hall of Fame, 2012. Inducted into the IBMA Hall of Fame as an individual, 2018. Inducted into the Bluegrass Music Hall Of Fame 2018. Prolific songwriter credited with 137 published compositions, co-compositions, or arrangements.
