Jussi Niemi

Finnish guitarist. Was in the 70's/80's glam rock outfit Gulliver, and only briefly played guitar for their rivals, Alwari Tuovitorvi. Less impactful were the horror-rock band project Kummitus, and the obscure Kula Shaker style neo-psych band Mellow Yellow although a stint as arranger-mixer for synthrocker Matti Nykänen's 90's band revived Niemi's fortunes. But in retrospect perhaps even greater claim to fame is a significant holiday in the midst of all this, in Jan 1978, as a producer of Kollaa Kestää (Finnish new wave band from the late 70's) and the "Tähtien Rauha" track on their first record "Musti, Sotakaira." He also contributed chimes and guitar overdubs to the soundtrack. Niemi recorded two solo efforts, one a vinyl single, the other more recently on cd. The journalist named Jussi Niemi who died this year (2023) is a separate personage entirely.
