Frank Evans (8)
American hillbilly/rockabilly/country singer, musician (guitar, banjo), producer and engineer. Born August 16, 1940 in Tampa, Florida. Died April 2, 2000 in Yuma, Arizona. By the age of 13, Evans was a hillbilly music star, performing weekly radio shows on WHBO and WALT in Tampa. He had his own show sponsored by the Velda Ice Cream Company. At age 15, he cut his first record for [l64508], backed by the Western Hayriders. Soon after, Evans formed his own band, Frank Evans and the Top Notchers. In 1956, Evans and his band could be seen and heard over WSUN-TV in St. Petersburg, Florida, under their TV alias Frank Evans and his B-Bar-B Ranch Hands. In 1959, Evans and [a2078912] founded the label [l923239] in Tampa, with [a903254] handling the song publishing. In 1960, he sold his rights to Clark. Evans joined the Ernie Lee TV show, which for several years the most popular television show in Florida. In the 1960s, Evans moved to Nashville and became a recording engineer and touring musician. He worked with Skeeter Davis, Bill Carlisle, George Hamilton IV and others before joining the Homesteaders. He toured with Jeanie C. Riley, Skeeter Davis, Hawkshaw Hawkins, and Jett Williams. In the 1990s, Evans moved back to Florida.
