Joseph Schuster (2)

German composer, born on August 11, 1748 in Dresden; died on July 24, 1812 in Dresden. After studying with his father and with J. G. Schürer, he later studied in Venice with G. Pera. From 1772 he was a church composer in Dresden. His stay in Italy in 1774-76 establishes a connection with Padre Martini. A further stay in Italy from 1778-81 enabled him to come into contact with Hasse. From 1781 he was permanently in Dresden and in 1787 he was appointed electoral bandmaster. He wrote piano works, church music and several operas.
