Rastko Obradović

A new force on European jazz scene, Rastko Obradović, is a 24-year-old saxophonist from Belgrade, Serbia. He graduated Jazz Performance at Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo in 2017. During studies in Norway Rastko got to know and understand Norwegian culture through academic and professional engagement, friendship and everyday life. “One of the most important things I’ve learned there is significance of spending time in nature and to what extent it has a positive effect on all aspects of life.” Being born and raised in Serbia, Rastko is familiar with Balkan and Oriental music tradition and improvisation styles. In Norway he studied jazz performance, but also explored Norwegian folk and Indian music. On his journey from East to North and beyond, Rastko developed authentic sound and unique improvisation style. This, apart from being receptive, moderate, but still aware of his qualities, led him to share the stage with many international artists including Bojan Z, Arkady Shilkloper, Dhafer Youssef, Eivind Aarset, Vasil Hadžimanov, Hermund Nygård, Miloš Branisavljević Quartet, Simen Halvorsen, Schime Trio, Marko Đorđević, to name a few. In November 2018, Rastko Obradović toured Latvia as a member of Euroradio Jazz Orchestra. Rastko Obradovic is also a composer and arranger. He has recorded two projects as an author: Wabi Sabi in duo with Paris-based pianist of his home land, Bojan Z (digitally released EP on AMP Music & Records, Norway) and Northern Experience, a first full length album with his Norwegian quartet (to be released in 2019 on AMP Music & Records) featuring Martin Gjerde (piano), Alexander Hoholm (double bass), Raymond Lavik (drums) and Arkady Shilkloper (French horn) as a special guest. In April 2019 Rastko received The Best Young Artist award from Jazz, Rock & Pop Musicians’ Association of Serbia.
