Julia Sawicka

Nowadays it is very difficult to be astonished by the new music, that gives you shivers when you listen to it. This is what I felt when I listened to five pieces of Julia Sawicka's Project. The music is culturally enriched, consisting of three aspects: the sound, the lyrics and the melody. Good acoustic properties are being well balanced by David Dorůžka's electic guitar. Julia's vocal coupled with strong, a little lustreless but never the less characteristic tone of voice is hypnotic. The jazz melodies are combined to sound as beautifully wraped gift. It is all thanks to musicians: Grzegorz Grocholski on trumpet, Roman Chraniuk on double bass and Marcin Jahr on percussion. Jazz purists will dislike the idea of mixing it up with other genres. The truth is that the music creates strong emotions and it doesnt matter if we listen to standards such as "Rosemaries Lullaby" comedy and "You Don't Know What Love Is" by Gene'a de Paula. Its pointless to look for the artists showing of with lyrics or vocal. This type of music I cherish the most because it contains as many sounds as are needed and each of them is equally important and had huge impact on me. I am impatient to hear the whole project "Breathing Space" as it relaxes me from everyday's chaos. I can reasure the jazz purists, that Julia Sawicka's Project is more pure jazz than Norah Jones, more optimistic than Cassandra Wilson's and the style of recording is as good as Diana Krall's.
