Heinz Hötter

German composer, conductor and jazz pianist, born 5 September 1923 in Barmen (today Wuppertal), died 28 July 2000 in Essen. He studied composition at the Cologne University of Music. In 1945 he began working for radio, arranging and composing for the NWDR's small entertainment orchestra in Cologne under the direction of [a730130], where he was also temporarily employed as a conductor. [a742014] hired him as a pianist and arranger for his “Media Band” in 1952. He wrote arrangements and compositions for this small big band line-up, which included unusual instruments such as horn and bassoon, and was involved in many radio recordings. As a composer, he published piano pieces and symphonic works for choir and orchestra, as well as works for jazz and symphony orchestras. He composed the opera “Odysseus” and the opening credits for the WDR lunchtime magazine. He also worked as a lecturer at the Remscheid Music Education Center and at the University of Münster. He also conducted his own formations and worked for various music publishers, recording numerous records, sometimes under a pseudonym.
