Dave (or David) Matthews (* 04 March 1942 in Sonora, Kentucky) is an American Funk, Soul, Jazz and Pop artist. Pianist, producer, arranger, conductor and bandleader, David Matthews is well known for having been arranger for [a=James Brown] in the beginning of the 70s and later has been closely associated with [a=Creed Taylor]'s [l=CTI Records]. He has also composed for television and commercial advertisement, but is also leader of both the [a=Manhattan Jazz Orchestra] and the [a=Manhattan Jazz Quintet], two acts very popular in Japan. He has also worked with [a=Paul Simon], [a=Buddy Rich], [a=Mark Murphy], [a=Yana Purim], [a=Morgana King], [a=Esther Phillips] and [a=George Benson], to name a few. One of his main hits as a composer is Could Heaven Ever Be Like This, which he composed, arranged and produced for [a=Idris Muhammad]. He now lives in Japan.
