Hamidou Touré

Senegalese musician. Died on February 4, 2021 in Paris following a long illness, Hamidou Touré of the “Touré Kunda” brothers will finally be buried in Nouakchott (Mauritania) where he grew up with his maternal family. Newspaper “Le Témoin” confirms that the artist-singer Hamidou Touré will not rest alongside his late brother Amadou Tilo, buried in Casamance in 1983. Short bio: Unlike his four brothers who grew up in the Casamance region in Southern Senegal, Hamidou was brought up by an uncle in Mauritania. After his medical training in Nouakchott, he was sent to a sand blown desert town called Boutilimit, where he married a beautiful woman, who was half Moorish or Hassaniya and half Toucouleur. They gave birth to a son who they called [a=Daby Touré], in honour of his grandfather, the patriarch of the family. In 1989, when the Senegalese-Mauritanian border conflict came to an outburst, Hamidou was invited by the Touré Kunda brothers to play in their band in Paris. He joined Touré Kunda for the albums Salam (1990) and the live album Sounké (1991). Later when he left Touré Kunda he would become known for his solo albums as Seta Touré.
