Paolo Zebolino

Hurdy-gurdy player, singer, composer and poly-instrumentalist was born in Genoa (Italy). He made his musical debut playing electric guitar in various garage-rock groups. He began to develop a growing interest in traditional and early music and to approach the hurdy-gurdy which gradually became his main instrument. Starting from the 90's he began to perform in Italy and abroad. In 2001 he moved to Geneva, Switzerland, to study hurdy-gurdy, modal music and medieval singing with René Zosso. He also holds a degree in medieval history from the University of Genoa, a master's degree from the University of Geneva and a specialization from the Berklee College of Music. His interest in different types of modal music (medieval, traditional, contemporary, jazz) led him to collaborations ranging from early music to traditional music up to experimental improvised music. He also composed music for the theater, films and commercial videos, acted as an actor (for the Italian theater group of the University of Geneva "il Ghiribizzo") and played as a stage musician in various productions. Since he returned to live in Genoa (from 2019) he not only performs as a soloist, but also plays with the combat-folk band Buendìa and collaborates with the Accademia degli Imperfetti (early music).
