Stefan Diestelmann

German blues musician, born on January 29, 1949 in Munich, died on March 27, 2007 in Tutzing, Germany. He was the son of an actor couple who were working for the eastern german DEFA media company. The family moved to the GDR in 1961, the year the wall in Berlin was built finally separating the western and the eastern parts of Germany. Stefan Diestelmann became blues musician and recorded two LPs for the state label Label [l=Amiga]. In 1982 Distelmann cooperated with british blues legend [a=Alexis Korner] on the occasion of "Bratislavska Lyra". As years went by he faced more and more problems with the communist regime of the GDR, e.g.: radio play prohibition, a general ban from performing at live events. Unable to pursue his profession as artist and musician Diestelmann finally left the GDR and returned to West Germany in 1985.
