Johan Setterlind

Swedish trumpeter and composer, born March 5, 1967 in Karlstad, Värmland County. He started playing the cello at the age of nine and the trumpet at the age of 14. He studied music at Sundstag Gymnasium in Karlstad and then the music department at Birkagården's folk high school in Stockholm. He studied 1987–1990 at the Stockholm Academy of Music and at this time also began playing in Bernt Rosengren's big band and somewhat later with Lars Sjösten Oktett. Setterlind has worked as a freelance musician since 1990. He toured with his own quintet and became a member of Monica Borrfors' quintet in 1993 and Elise Einarsdotter Ensemble in 1996. He also plays with Jonas Knutsson and participated as a soloist with Nils Landgren and Värmlands sinfonietta in 1997 under the direction of Gustav Sjökvist with music written by Nils Lindberg. He appears on a number of CDs as a trumpet player and composer. He plays in Mathias Algotsson - Johan Setterlind Duo, together with the pianist Mathias Algotsson. Setterlind was also a composer for SVT's children's program Hotell Kantarell (2007).
